The Dodgers designated Figgins (hip) for assignment Wednesday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. A left quad strain put Figgins on the shelf in mid-June, and he didn't show enough during his 19-game rehab assignment to warrant a return to the active roster. The Dodgers essentially released Figgins on Wednesday, as the 11-year veteran seems likely to refuse an outright assignment to the minors and elect free agency. He hit just .217/.373/.267 in 38 games with the major league club.
