The Cubs activated Richard (knee) from the disabled list Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago reports.

Richard has been sidelined since late June with his knee injury, but he is ready to rejoin the Cubs after completing a four-game rehab assignment. He will work out of the Cubs' bullpen but tossed at least three innings in each of his last three minor-league outings, so he figures to be available for long relief if needed.
