Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Tigers are "trying to make a strong push" for Athletics' left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Slusser has confirmed the Tigers' interest via three sources. However, they aren't sure their proposal would be able to match that of the Yankees. Gonzalez, 26, posted a 3.12 ERA and 1.32 WHIP while striking out 197 batters over 202 innings this past season. The southpaw is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.
