Stephen Drew met Tuesday with the Diamondbacks' medical staff, manager Kirk Gibson and general manager Kevin Towers to discuss his progress from right ankle surgery. Drew recently ran the bases for the first time since the surgery last July, but the timetable for his return remains very vague. The hope is that he may soon head over to extended spring training, where he figures to start out with one at-bat with light running, no sliding and an inning or two of defense. However, it's tough to pin down a specific time frame until he can increase his baseball activities without lingering discomfort. Willie Bloomquist will take his place in the starting lineup for now.
