Span reached base three times Monday, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a pair of RBI and a pair of runs scored in a 14-2 win over Cincinnati.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old was mired in the slump through the first couple weeks of spring training, but he has turned it on over the final few weeks of exhibition play, batting .458 (11-for-24) during his current seven-game hitting streak. Outside of a slight uptick in power, Span had a disappointing season in his first year with the Giants, failing to provide the batting average, runs and steals he was known for despite receiving 637 plate appearances. The most-concerning aspect of his decline was his inability to generate stolen bases, attempting 19 and only converting 12. If Span is nothing more than a 10-15 steal outfielder, then there won't be a ton of value for those in standard leagues. That being said, the veteran outfielder is worth a flyer due to his position atop the Giants' lineup and the possibility of a bounce back campaign.
