Smith was traded to the Mariners in exchange for Brandon Maurer on Tuesday, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports. Smith became expendable this offseason after a string of trades brought Matt Kemp, Justin Upton and Wil Myers to San Diego. After losing Melky Cabrera to the White Sox, Seattle is in need of another outfielder, and Smith figures to compete for time in right field along with Justin Ruggiano. The 32-year-old Smith hit .266/.367/.440 last season to go with 48 RBI, 12 home runs and 87 strikeouts in 443 at-bats.
