Smith was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a viral infection.
EDGE Analysis
Smith remains without a timetable for his return, but the move is retroactive to Sept. 13, so he'll be eligible for activation next weekend should he be ready. The 26-year-old southpaw owns an unsightly 7.71 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 18.2 big-league innings this season.
