Smith was claimed off waivers by the Marlins on Friday. He had a 9.72 ERA in 8.1 innings at Triple-A with the Angels but had a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings at Triple-A as part of Oakland's organization earlier in the year. Smith will offer organizational bullpen depth for the Marlins, but does not figure to be deployed in high-leverage spots if he gets called up to the big leagues.
