Smith is out of the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith's absence from the lineup is a surprising one, as he typically serves as the club's leadoff hitter against right-handed pitching. Though righty Miguel Gonzalez is starting for the White Sox, manager Buck Showalter will instead give Hyun Soo Kim a spin in the outfield and top spot in the order, but it's unlikely Kim will end up displacing Smith from the lineup on an ongoing basis. With a .344 on-base percentage and six home runs in 45 games, Smith has been a decent performer in what's otherwise been a disappointing season for the Orioles.
