Smith is out of the lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Smith has been receiving a day off after every two starts recently, and will do so again Friday. He has been on a rough stretch at the plate over the past four games as well, collecting just one hit in his last 17 at-bats. Cory Spangenberg gets the start in left field Friday and will bat second for the Padres.
