Smith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
As per usual, Smith will take a seat with the Orioles facing a left-handed pitcher in Danny Duffy. Joey Rickard will draw in as the Orioles' leadoff man and Craig Gentry will get a rare start in right field in Smith's absence. Smith figures to return Saturday when the Orioles face right-hander Nathan Karns.
