Carlson (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Springfield on Friday, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports.

Carlson suffered a hamstring tear in late May, but he's been working out recently and will return to game action in the minors this weekend. While it's not clear how many rehab games the 23-year-old will appear in, it seems likely that he'll be able to rejoin the Cardinals this weekend or sometime next week.
