The lefty-hitting Moreland didn't start in three out of Oakland's last four games, with all of his benchings coming against left-handed starting pitchers. Though the Padres will bring a right-hander (Joe Musgrove) to the hill for the series finale, Moreland will remain on the bench, an indication his hold on a strong-side platoon role at designated hitter could be slipping. Though he's fared well against righties for most his career, he's been a below-average hitter in those matchups in 2021, slashing .242/.298/.392 (94 wRC+) in 168 plate appearances.
