Sanchez signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Sunday that includes an invite to major-league spring training, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sanchez was a productive 30-game starter for the Blue Jays in 2016, but his results dropped off during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Across that span, he made 47 starts for Toronto and Houston and logged a 5.45 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. The 29-year-old missed the 2020 campaign after undergoing shoulder surgery, and he missed a significant portion of 2021 due to a biceps injury. The right-hander was productive when healthy last year, as he recorded a 3.06 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 35.1 innings across nine appearances (seven starts). Sanchez was let go by San Francisco in mid-August but will compete for a major-league roster spot with the Nationals this spring.
