Shoemaker was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Angels won't need a fifth starter again until May 14, so it make sense for the team to skip the struggling Shoemaker's spot in the rotation and get by with four starters for the next two weeks. As was frequently the case last season, Shoemaker has been doomed by the long ball in his first five starts, allowing six homers en route to a 9.15 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over 20.2 innings.
