Shoemaker turned in a dominant performance against the Red Sox on Thursday, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out nine over 7.2 innings to pick up his 12th win of the season.
A day after the Halos lost Garrett Richards (knee) for the season, Shoemaker did his best to fill the shoes of the hard-throwing right hander, as he held the Red Sox without a baserunner until the bottom of the seventh inning after hitting Brock Holt with a pitch to open the bottom of the first. The Angels will need their pitchers to step up following the injury to Richards if they want to maintain their hold on the top spot in the AL West, and Shoemaker is looking like he will be a reliable piece of the puzzle going forward, as he hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in an outing over his last five starts.
