Shoemaker (oblique) has just a "very remote" chance of pitching during the final week of the regular season, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports. Shoemaker and the Angels seem optimistic about his chances of pitching in the postseason, but he doesn't appear likely to get a tune-up start during the final week of the regular season. The right-hander played catch on Monday, and it didn't appear to cause him much discomfort, further asserting the notion that his oblique strain is considered to be mild. The Angels will take a conservative approach for now, but likely won't hesitate to deploy Shoemaker and his 3.04 ERA when needed in the playoffs.
