Shoemaker (head) was placed on the 15-day DL on Monday, MLB.com reports.

Shoemaker underwent surgery Monday afternoon to stop the bleeding that resulted from being struck in the head with a batted ball in Sunday's game. His road to recovery has started, but it's still not surprising to see him placed on the DL, even though the team has extra roster spots available due to September roster expansion. It remains to be see whether or not Shoemaker will pitch again in 2016.
