Shields (3-7) got hammered for eight runs on six hits and two walks over just 1.1 innings in Sunday's 10-2 loss to the Orioles. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Four of the six hits left the yard, which means Shields recorded one out for every home run he served up. To save you the math, that's a 27.0 HR/9 rate for the game. The 34-year-old appeared to be turning his season around after posting a 1.78 ERA over five July starts, but 14 earned runs in 6.1 August innings has sent his ERA on the season soaring back up to 6.68. The White Sox will gamely trot Shields back out to the mound Saturday in Miami, but use him at your own risk.
