Shaw went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 6-1 win over Colorado.
EDGE Analysis
After abusing Rockies pitchers for four doubles in the first two games of the season, Shaw decided to hit one a little farther this time around. He has five RBI already, enjoying his premier lineup slotting, but it's worth remembering that Shaw saw nearly a full season's worth of plate appearances last year (530) and hit just .242/.306/.421 with 16 homers -- that's far from big-time production. Shaw's weaknesses as a hitter appeared to be exposed with full-time action, and there's nothing in last season's line to say that he got unlucky. He might improve his stats to some degree this year just because he has more experience to go off, but if you expect stardom, you're probably going to be disappointed.
