Shaw was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports. Shaw will start at first base and bat eighth in Tuesday's game against the Marlins. He got his first 10 big-league plate appearances earlier this season, and he owns a .250/.321/.363 slash line in 278 plate appearance for Triple-A Pawtucket. The 25-year-old Shaw is a middling prospect, but Mike Napoli's continued struggles are forcing the Red Sox to explore other options.
