Shaw has played his way back atop the depth chart at third base for the Red Sox, WEEI's Rob Bradford reports. "When he's in this type of run offensively, he's got a bat that can almost carry the team," manager John Farrell said. "We've gone through a lot of ups and downs with Travis throughout the course of this year. And if competition has found that edge for him, somehow or someway, even better for us."
EDGE Analysis
Yoan Moncada was promoted earlier this month with the expectation that he would take the bulk of the starts at third base, but he has really struggled and that has coincided with Shaw heating up. Over his last 11 games (38 plate appearances), Shaw is hitting .324/.368/.618 with two home runs and 10 RBI. Look for him to start against right-handers going forward, with Aaron Hill starting against southpaws and Moncada receiving the occassional spot start.
