Seattle Mariners pitcher James Paxton will throw a bullpen session on Sunday as he continues to recover from a finger injury, according to the Seattle Times. Paxton has not thrown from the mound since he suffered the injury back on May 28. He is no longer wearing tape on his hand and is reportedly comfortable throwing. “He’s throwing good, pain-free,” Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. “Continue to progress and get off the mound and see where we are. … We want to make sure there’s no repercussions for not having the support.” Team officials said Paxton's slow recovery was due to the injury being in a place that gets limited blood flow. He is projected to throw 20 to 25 pitches Sunday, and if he does not suffer any setbacks, he could be about a month away from rejoining the big club.
