Scott Miller of CBSSports.com reports that the Padres and Chase Headley had "very rough" talks about an extension earlier this year. Headley's name came up in trade speculation immediately following the news of Alex Rodriguez's hip surgery, but the Padres remain interested in locking him up for the long-term. However, since he's under contract for two more seasons, an extension will likely take a back seat while Padres general manager Josh Byrnes addresses more pressing matters. It's possible talks could pick back up in the spring.
