Samardzija (1-7) gave up three runs on nine hits over four innings while striking out five in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
It was the right-hander's shortest outing of the season, as a parade of singles forced Samardzija to use 100 pitches (67 strikes) to complete four frames. His 84:11 K:BB through 72 innings still isn't reflected in his 4.63 ERA, but a 3.30 FIP and 2.81 xFIP promise better days ahead. He'll next take the mound Monday in Milwaukee.
