Alex Rodriguez could be in line to fill the role in an emergency situation, but the Yankees used the 25-man roster spot for Wednesday's starter, Ivan Nova, who was activated from the disabled list. Ryan will be able to rejoin the team July 8, but back injuries have a tendency to linger.
