Rutledge, who's been the primary starter at third base, made three miscues during Friday's 5-4 loss to the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge is the latest player to highlight the mess third base has become for the Red Sox. His bounced throw Friday led to two unearned runs. He also double-clutched a throw that was initially ruled an error but changed to a hit; he also dropped a popup in the ninth inning which led to a force-out. At present, there aren't many options for manager John Farrell. Pablo Sandoval (knee), Brock Holt (vertigo) and Marco Hernandez (shoulder) are all on the disabled list. Deven Marrero is on the 25-man roster, but his weak bat is untenable in an everyday role. Rutledge will remain the primary starter at third until one of the injured players are activated.
