Rutledge went 2-for-7 with a walk, a double, a stolen base and two runs scored while starting both ends of a doubleheader against the Royals on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell has been intent on getting his older starters rest whenever he can, so he used the doubleheader to give Hanley Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia some rest. Rutledge started at third base in the opener, moving Travis Shaw to first base, and then started at second base in the nightcap. Rutledge offers the kind of position versatility that makes him useful for a major-league roster and as long as he's hitting, he'll remain up with the big club and get two-to-three starts per week. The 27-year-old utility player is 13-for-34 (.382) with six doubles and nine runs scored in 18 games.
