Royals placed LHP Jason Vargas on the 15-day disabled list with appendicitis. Vargas underwent an appendectomy on Thursday and could be out 3-4 weeks. Bruce Chen seems likely to take his rotation spot. Vargas, 31, owns a 3.31 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 82/29 K/BB ratio in 125 innings this season.
