Royals and OF Justin Maxwell avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract. Maxwell asked for $1.7 million and was offered $1.075 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last week between team and player. The 30-year-old outfielder was eligible for arbitration for the first time.
