Ron Chimelis of the Springfield Republican reports that the Red Sox have signed left-hander Chris Capuano. It's a one-year, $2.25 million deal, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman. Capuano drew surprisingly little interest this winter despite dominant career numbers against left-handed hitters and the ability to both start and relieve. The Red Sox will let him compete for their fifth rotation spot this spring but will likely use him as a swingman (moving between the bullpen and rotation) once the regular season begins. Capuano, 35, boasts a solid 3.91 ERA and 1.286 WHIP in his last 304 major league innings.
