Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes that "it could be a matter of when, not if," the Pirates reopen extension talks with Neil Walker.

Both sides discussed interest in a long-term deal this offseason, but Walker avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.3 million deal last month. A Super Two qualifier, Walker is under team control though 2016. The Pirates will likely look to buyout his remaining arbitration years and one or two years of free agency.
