The Cardinals optioned Dean to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Dean had a single and a walk in four plate appearances after being recalled Aug. 17, and now he vacates the active roster to make room for Dylan Carlson (wrist) to be activated. In 38 big-league plate appearances this season, Dean has slashed .233/.342/.400 with a home run and seven RBI.
