Carroll (knee) is back in the starting lineup Friday against the Nationals.

Carroll will serve as the Diamondbacks' designated hitter and bat out of the No. 3 spot versus the Nats and right-hander Josiah Gray. He appeared off the bench in Wednesday's series finale against the Rangers, but this will be Carroll's first start since he bruised his left knee Saturday against the Rockies.
