Manager Kevin Cash said Thompson (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League early next week, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Before the Rays map out a rehab schedule for Thompson, he'll first need to make it through a live batting practice session Friday without issue. Thompson currently resides on the 60-day injured list and isn't eligible to rejoin the Tampa Bay bullpen until late August.
