Reds manager Bryan Price said he doesn't believe Brandon Phillips' left thumb injury to be "brutal." "We'll do due diligence to get much more depth on the injury," Price said. "It can be more significant than we believe it is and hope it is as this point in time. But right now, the initial signs are it's not a brutal injury and we can have him back sooner than later." Phillips appeared to be in some pain when he got the thumb caught while diving for a ball in the eighth inning, and he was seen leaving the clubhouse with a brace on the thumb after the game. More should be known about his outlook in the coming days.
