Reds manager Bryan Price said Friday that Mat Latos (knee) will likely begin the season on the disabled list. That's been the assumption for a while. The Reds have been hopeful that he could be ready on April 6 when they first need a fifth starter, but that's looking unlikely now with Price saying Alfredo Simon will begin the year in the rotation. Latos pitched in a minor league game Wednesday and will throw in another one soon, so the club will be able to backdate a DL stint if necessary. However, he simply might not have enough stamina built up to be able to start in a couple weeks.
