Red Sox avoided arbitration with OF/1B Mike Carp by agreeing to a one-year, $1.4 million contract. Carp was arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason. The 27-year-old proved to be a nice spot starter for the Red Sox last season, putting up a .296/.362/.523 batting line with nine homers over 86 games.
