Rea (elbow) could be ready to start a throwing program later this week, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Rea will move to instructional leagues for rehab once he is ready. He isn't expected to return to the majors in 2016, but it sounds like his elbow is healing up well enough from platelet-rich plasma therapy that he could be ready for spring training in 2017.
