Rea (4-3) gave up three hits, four runs (one earned) and four walks over five innings in Friday's 13-4 victory over the Reds. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Rea was spotted a 3-0 lead following the top of the third, before blowing it in the bottom half of the frame by surrendering four runs that were admittedly aided by a pair of errors. The right-hander was actually effective otherwise, but the extended inning helped balloon his pitch count to 98 in just five frames, facilitating his relatively early exit. The victory was the 25-year-old's first since May 5, and the seven whiffs represented a season high in that category. He'll take on the Yankees in his next trip to the mound, which comes next Friday night.
