Rays exercised RHP James Shields' $10.25 million option for 2013. It was a no-brainer, though the Rays could shop him in potential trades this offseason. Shields posted a 3.52 ERA in 30 starts this year and has surpassed 200 innings in six straight seasons. The Rays also picked up the option on closer Fernando Rodney.
