Quintero has several years of major-league experience and will likely be the emergency call-up to Boston if a catcher is needed. The Red Sox are going to let top prospect Blake Swihart slow-cook at Triple-A Pawtucket this season, so adding Quintero gives them an MLB-ready backstop in the minors.
