Putkonen (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Low-A West Michigan on Thursday, James Schmehl of MLive.com reports. With a couple clean performances with West Michigan, Putknonen could put himself on track for an activation on Sept. 1, when rosters expand. Even in Detroit's leaky bullpen, Petkonen isn't expected to see many high-leverage innings down the stretch.
