Pirates designated C Jason Jaramillo for assignment. The move was made to open up a spot for Erik Bedard on the team's 40-man roster. Jaramillo, 29, batted .326 (14-for-43) in 23 games with the Pirates this season. He could draw some interest elsewhere, which would put the newly-signed Jose Morales in a strong position to make the Opening Day roster.
