Phillies signed 2B Chase Utley to a two-year, $27 million contract extension with $15 million vesting options for the 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons. The deal will max out at five years, $75 million if Utley hits all of the benchmarks. For each of those options to vest, the 34-year-old second baseman has to reach 500 plate appearances in the season prior. He hasn't exceeded 500 plate appearances since 2009. It's a very team-friendly contract for a still-productive player.
