Peavy (0-4) turned in his best performance since returning from the disabled list, going seven innings and giving up two runs (one earned) while striking out five and walking just one. He was still saddled with the loss as Jacob deGrom outdueled him Wednesday.
Peavy missed nearly three months with an early-season back injury, but he has looked like a new man since coming off of the DL, posting a 2.03 ERA over his last two starts. He is no longer the perennial Cy Young contender he once was with the Padres, but Peavy could prove useful in favorable matchups like Wednesday's. It will be interesting to see how the Giants' retool their crowded rotation after the All-Start break, but Wednesday's performance all but assures Peavy a spot.
