Paul Maholm pitched well in a losing effort in his Braves debut on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings while racking up eight strikeouts. It was the first time in his last seven starts that Maholm allowed more than one earned run, but he was still very effective. Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell provided all of the damage, blasting a two-run homer in the fourth inning and a solo blast in the seventh. Maholm will take a 9-7 record, 3.75 ERA and 89/36 K/BB ratio into his next outing against the Mets in New York on Friday.
