Paul Maholm is day-to-day with the flu. Keeping him away from camp until the he's no longer contagious is smart thinking. Maholm should be back in the next few days. The Cubs signed Maholm to a one-year, $4.25 million contract with a $6.5 million option for 2013 in January. The 29-year-old left-hander posted a 3.66 ERA and 97/50 K/BB ratio over 162 1/3 innings with the Pirates last season before being shut down in August with a shoulder strain.
