Padres signed OF Carlos Quentin to a three-year contract extension. The deal also includes a mutual option for 2016. Quentin will reportedly pocket $27 million guaranteed, with $3 million more available in incentives. The Padres certainly need as much pop in the middle of the order as they can get, but it's a risk to give an injury-prone, soon-to-be 30-year-old that much money, especially with San Diego's budget constraints. Quentin is batting .273/.389/.525 with nine homers over 40 games this season. He spent the first two months of the season on the disabled list following knee surgery.
