Padres manager Bud Black said Monday that Kyle Blanks (shoulder) could begin the season on the disabled list. He would join fellow left fielder Carlos Quentin on the shelf. "We're still trying to get a handle on it," Black said of Blank's left shoulder. The injury has sidelined the big man for a week. Blanks had a cortisone injection last Thursday and insists he is improving. Jesus Guzman seems likely to draw most starts in left as long as Quentin and Blanks are shelved.
